The education fairs in Trinidad & Tobago will be delivered in partnership with Spark Education Career Fair which unlike other local fairs is hosted in 3 regions and students are brought in directly from targeted secondary schools, accompanied by their guidance counsellors and teachers. Coupled with the wide variety of local, regional and international institutions present, the fairs will attract a wider pool of students from across Trinidad & Tobago.

The Worldview Education Fair brings institutions from all around the world to one place; giving students more opportunities and options, thereby attracting a larger, more diverse pool of students. Trinidad and Tobago is the economic powerhouse of the Eastern Caribbean region, fuelled largely by its Oil & Gas industry. This twin-island nation has a population of approximately 1.3Miilion in Trinidad and 60,000 in the sister island of Tobago and is considered a middle-income nation. The public education system is well developed and represents the top expenditure item in the government’s budget which includes scholarships and grants for studying abroad.

Children in Trinidad and Tobago attend primary school for six years. The official language of instruction is English; secondary school students are taught French and Spanish. The vast majority of Trinidad and Tobago students attend public schools or government assisted private schools, many of which are highly competitive; there are many private schools, including several international private secondary schools. Secondary school education takes five years; in Form 5 the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) exams are taken by students, equivalent to “O” Levels. College-bound students generally remain in high school for an extra two years in Lower and Upper Form 6 to pursue the Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Exam (CAPE) or “A” Levels.

Trinidad and Tobago’s higher education system is comprised of universities, colleges and vocational training institutions. The Accreditation Council of Trinidad and Tobago lists 13 accredited and 45 recognised local tertiary institutions which offer 4-year Bachelor’s degrees, 3-year Associate Bachelor’s Degrees as well as two- and three-year diplomas.

International institutions that recruit from Trinidad and Tobago are highly complementary of Trinbagonian students regarding academic performance and engagement in activities and culture in their new college environment abroad. Parents and students looking to expand their horizons abroad or in search of specialised programmes not available locally are very keen to meet international college and university representatives. Over 3,200 students annually travel abroad for higher education, most of whom are funded privately. Guidance counsellors and teachers are keen to present opportunities to their students, particularly international opportunities for high performing potential government scholarship winners.
